fun modern art "quiz" (not for credit obviously!)
Hi everyone. I know we won't reach modern art for months, but I found this little quiz online and it's fun. I got 9 out of 10 correct! Not too shabby. Can YOU tell the difference between "modern art" and "toddler art"? There's only one way to find out- use this link and take the quiz. Obviously I'm not saying that modern art IS in EVERY WAY like toddler art. You'll see what makes modern art so special when we get to it in the spring.

King Tutankhamun short biography
Tutankhamun became a king as a child and died when he was a teenager. This link provides a short synopsis of his life and the challenges he faced. If you can stomach it, there is also a 2-minute video about his death (perhaps from gangrene). The video is interesting, but don't watch it if you're squeamish. You've been warned!

As a follow up to your viewing of Menkaure and a Queen, I suggest reading this short article about the way the royal couple are depicted. There are details about the way the queen was sculpted/dressed that help us understand Egypt's view of women in society. This was a topic that I wasn't certain about when it came up in the PowerPoint. This website is a great resource for a more thorough look a the pieces we study.

READING THE AP ART HISTORY COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Greetings. Some time before next week (9/16), please read the AP Art History Course Description from the College Board website. It would take us a long time to go over this in class, so I think you should read it outside of class and ask me any questions you may have when we are at school. Here is the link. If it doesn't work when you click on it, just copy and paste the address into the address bar.
http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/repository/ap-art-history-course-description.pdf
You can skim through a lot of it, but PLEASE read the following sections carefully. You should know this information so that you approach class quizzes, tests, essays, etc. with full knowledge of what is expected of you.
"How AP Exams are Scored"(page 2)
"Course Content" (page 6)
"College Course Coverage" (page 6)
"THE EXAM" (page 7)
"Section I. Multiple-Choice Questions" (page 7)
"Section I: Part A" (page 8)
"Section II. Free Response Questions" (page 23)
"Section II, Part A: Long Essay Questions" (page 23)
"Section II, Part B: Short Essay Questions"(page 25)
When we have quizzes, tests, and essays in this class, they will be based on prior AP Art History Exam questions. This will help you get comfortable with the exam format and turn you into an art history genius. Amaze your family and friends!
Mrs. Smolinski REALLY enjoyed seeing the
pyramids in Giza, but does NOT recommend going
to Egypt in July unless you really enjoy the heat!
